RC Dragonfly Toy Helicopters

The remote-controlled Dragonfly mini helicopter is capable of full omnidirectional flight, able to operate both indoors and out with precision as long as you learn to master the controls. Fortunately, the manufacturer created the Dragonfly RC design with simplistic operation in mind, building a control system that emphasizes helicopter stability. With the use of only the throttle and rudder controls, you can have your Dragonfly in the air instantly, flying with complete control in a matter of minutes.

Step 1

Set the Dragonfly RC helicopter in the center of a flat area, leaving about 10 square feet around it for learning to take off and land. Make sure the tail of the helicopter points toward the spot from which you will be flying the aircraft. Set the throttle on the radio transmitter to the lowest setting and then turn on the transmitter. Plug the battery in the helicopter body to the helicopter power plug to start the Dragonfly.

Step 2

Press forward slightly on the throttle stick located on the radio transmitter to lift the helicopter slightly off the ground. Check for spin in the body of the Dragonfly as it rises. If the body spins to either the left or the right, gently release the throttle, lowering the helicopter back to the ground.

Step 3

Trim the helicopter to remove any spin. Turn the trim knob on the remote slightly in the opposite direction of which the helicopter body spins. Raise the helicopter again, watching for spin, and continue adjusting the trim until it no longer spins when it lifts.

Step 4

Lift the helicopter by pressing the throttle forward. Once it clears the ground, apply further forward pressure to increase altitude. Pull back on the throttle to decrease altitude.

Step 5

Change the forward orientation of the Dragonfly by pushing the rudder stick on the radio transmitter to the left or right. Apply pressure to the rudder in the direction you want the helicopter to turn, moving the rudder back to the center of its setting to stop.

Step 6

Move the helicopter in a direction by applying both rudder and throttle at the same time. An increase in the throttle will increase the speed of the forward movement while turning the rudder moves the helicopter in that particular direction. Move forward in small curving turns with a small amount of rudder applied. Increase the amount of rudder to create sharp turning movements. Use the rudder without applying forward pressure on the throttle to turn in place.
